Does Hormone Replacement Therapy Cause Cancer?

A potential link between Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and breast cancer is a common concern for patients interested in the treatment. The current data is clear, using HRT does NOT increase risk of breast cancer. In fact, most women diagnosed with breast cancer will have never used HRT.

There is some observational evidence that treatment with estradiol and progesterone versus premarin (horse estrogen) and progestin (a molecule similar to progesterone) decreases risk of breast cancer over time.
